Laser-modifed weapons

AIS can provide a number of different weapon conversions for your laser-based PRISim Suite simulator.

Depending on your recoil requirements, you can choose dry-fire, CO2-based recoil kits, Airmunitions, or umbilical weapon conversions. AIS also has a number of less-lethal weapons and flashlights.

Dry-fire weapon conversions

Dry-fire conversions have no recoil. We take a real weapon and replace the barrel with a modified barrel that accepts the laser insert. The breech of the modified barrel is machined so that a live round cannot be chambered.

Dry-fire conversions can be returned to regular service with a simple barrel change.

Dry-fire conversions are available for a number of common duty weapons including:

CO2-based recoil kits

AIS can supply recoil kits for a number of pistols, sub-machine guns and rifles. These recoil kits use CO2 gas to generate the recoil effect. Each kit consists of a replacement barrel insert and spring (for pistols) or bolt (for rifles) and a replacement magazine.

Tethered and tetherless kits are available for most weapons. The tethered kits utilise a beltpack with either a 12-gram CO2 capsule or a 12-oz refillable cylinder. An airline (hose) runs from the beltpack to the magazine.

The tetherless kits use one or two 12-gram CO2 capsules, which screw into the magazine.

Real weapons can be converted to simulator weapons using a recoil kit and a laser insert. The weapon can be returned to normal service after training by removing the recoil kit and re-installing the original barrel/bolt, spring and magazine.

Tethered recoil kits (ARS) are available for:

Tetherless recoil kits (TRS) are available for:

AirMunition weapon conversions

These weapon conversions produce recoil by using AirMunitions training ammunition filled with compressed air.

When the trigger is squeezed, the firing pin strikes the back of the AirMunition round, which forces the compressed air to vent. This reaction force combines with the movement of the slide to generate a recoil effect. The empty cartridge gets ejected and the next round moves into position ready for firing.

AirMunitions rounds are reloadable and re-usable. A simple reloading press—attached to an air compressor—is used to refill the empty rounds with compressed air.

AirMunitions conversion kits are available for the following weapons:

Umbilical weapon conversions

Umbilical weapon conversions use compressed air to generate the recoil effect. Up to four umbilical weapons can be linked to a floor box. The floor box controls the flow of air from an air compressor to each weapon. The air passes from the floor box along a 3-metre long tether to a dummy magazine fitted in the weapon.

Pistols, sub-machine guns and rifles can all be converted to umbilical weapons, but these weapons cannot be returned to their original state after conversion.
